Weeping Virgin ~ Portugal, 2020, Julien Gallardeaux de Gomes
“As every other artist, I’ve been highly influenced over the years by classic painters and their works. Often religious works were made as commissions for churches or patrons. Oddly enough, the actual first non-commissioned painting I sold was a religious one! One of my favorite things to do while traveling is to visit churches, cathedrals, and every kind of religious building. Their magnificence never ceases to impress me, and the peace and tranquility they bring are absolutely unique. Today I bring you a drawing I did just a couple of days ago, of a weeping Virgin Mary. It’s a sad image, but I consider it quite appropriate considering the time we're in now. I wanted to challenge myself to draw a realistic portrait with graphite, and I think it went well.” Julien Gallardeaux de Gomes - www.instagram.com/gallardeauxdegomes.art
