Playing With Light, Cecily Markham
In the midst of our world's pandemic and all the pain and loss our fellow human beings are experiencing day by day, and as I am hunkered down myself, staying home, I feel profoundly grateful to be able to stand at my kitchen window and simply gaze at the day outside. I look across the backyard and see the red October sky maple, the big leaf maple, and weeping birch trees gathering and creating the leafy, generous canopy of shade they faithfully offer each spring. Birds gather too – their small bodies now still, now swirling, now playing with light. In the rhythm of this moment - all is unitive with light.
May the images in this painting perhaps remind us that coupled with our anxieties, our confusion, our pain, there remains in our world….
